  • Honeywell Instant Alert System

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Keeping parents informed and involved helps to assure student safety and improve student success.  It has become more difficult for schools to reach families quickly and effectively.  This is why our school is using the Honeywell Instant Alert® for Schools.

Instant Alert for Schools is an essential tool for notification and communication. Within minutes of an emergency, school officials can use Instant Alert to deliver a single, clear message to the students’ parents or guardians by telephone, cell phone, e-mail, pager or PDA in any combination. Instant Alert can also be used to notify you of a school closing due to inclement weather.  It’s an equally effective way to keep you informed of everyday activities, such as event times and locations as well as schedule changes.

Instant Alert is Internet based, allowing each family to maintain a secure, password protected online profile. Included in this letter is an instruction sheet for accessing the system and creating your profile.  You can log into your profile at any time to update your contact information.  Maintaining the accuracy of your profile will increase the ability of the school to keep you informed.

Your online profile will enable you to:

    • Input your personal contact information
    • Select which type of school information you would like to receive on each of your contact devices
    • Set the days and time of days you would like your phone devices to receive alerts.

(You may leave it as is which is 24 hrs.)

    • View the alerts that have been sent to you in the past

The system is ready for you to use at https://instantalert.honeywell.com immediately.  If your contact information has changed or you are new to the district, please log in and set-up or change your profile.  We encourage all of you to take advantage of this opportunity, as we will be utilizing this system for most of our school-to-home communication.

If you need assistance with your profile, please go to https://intstantalert.honeywell.com and click on the Help Request link on the lower right hand side of the page, or contact the school at 201-672-3000.  Be sure to set your e-mail spam filter to receive e-mail from Honeywell.com.  If you do not have access to a computer, please notify the school office to make an appointment so someone can assist you with setting up your account.

    Sincerely,

    Stephen M. Kollinok

  • "ESSA" Every Student Succeeds Act

    Dear Parent/Guardian:

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed by the U.S. Congress late last year and signed into law on December 10, 2015. The ESSA replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and is the latest reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

Although NCLB was designed to make changes in teaching and learning in order to increase students’ academic achievement, the Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) provision under NCLB was eliminated from the ESSA. Despite this fact, all educators in New Jersey still are required to hold the appropriate state certificate/license for their given position.

Under the ESSA, all schools receiving Title I funds must inform parents of their right to ask schools about the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers and paraprofessionals. Our school receives Title I funding and we are happy to share this information with you upon your request.

New Jersey has some of the most qualified teachers in the country, and we are extremely proud of the quality of the teaching staff in the Carlstadt School District. All our regular teachers have college degrees and many have advanced degrees. In addition, every teacher continues learning through professional development activities and our teachers are evaluated each year to make sure their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level.

I encourage you to support your child’s education and communicate with your child’s teacher(s) on a regular basis. For more information on ESSA, and the role of parents, please visit the United States Department of Education’s (USDE) website at http://www.ed.gov/essa.

By partnering, families and educators can provide your child with the best education possible.

    Sincerely,

Allison Evans Director of Curriculum and Instruction

  • Superintendent's Welcome

Welcome to the Carlstadt Public School website. The 2016-2017 school year will be starting for all students on September 6, 2016. Many changes to the facility have taken place since moving into the new Carlstadt Public School in April 2007.  The Mattie J.T Stepanek Park located on the north side of the building was completed in June of 2009. This area developed in conjuction with the Boro has added a new dimension to the area and has been consistently utilized by the town's residents and students. Totland located in the front of the school is fully operational and is utilized daily and on the weekends by the students and children of Carlstadt. This area continues to afford the younger students an area to play and exercise.  Additional fencing, cameras and lighting have been placed in specific areas to further assist with safety.

Occupying the new school in April 2007 provided an opportunity for the staff and students to become acquainted with the state of the art facility and to begin experiencing all the educational benefits it has to offer. Housing our staff and students in one building allows for an educationally efficient organization, schedule, and daily function. One of our continued goals for this year is to utilize, as fully as possible, all rooms and technological enhancements available.

For parents/guardians, we remind you of the arrival and dismissal times during the 2016-2017 school year.

It continues to be my pleasure to serve as the Carlstadt School District Superintendent of Schools.
