Regional Office of Curriculum and Instruction
Mission Statement: The Carlstadt-East Rutherford, Carlstadt, and East Rutherford Regional Boards of Education and Administrators, recognizing the need to educate all students of the Carlstadt-East Rutherford communities on a Pre-Kindergarten thru Grade 12 (PK-12) continuum, support the formation and development of the Carlstadt-East Rutherford, Carlstadt, and East Rutherford School Districts Regional Office of Curriculum and Instruction. Our mission is as follows:
| * To develop the scope and sequence of content objectives for PK-12 grades in the Carlstadt-East Rutherford Regional School Districts. |
| * To improve curriculum development, articulation, and implementation. |
| * To explore the development of successful instructional practices through professional development activities. |
Dr. Melissa Whitfield Varley is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Melissa received her undergraduate degree from Valdosta State University, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy, from University of South Carolina, and her doctorate of Educational Leadership from The University of Georgia. Before coming to Carlstadt, Carlstadt-East Rutherford, and East Rutherford, Dr. Varley was a science teacher, a reading specialist, a second grade teacher, an assistant principal, a principal, and a curriculum director for a high school housing over 3000 students. Currently, she teaches part time for The University of Phoenix and Johns Hopkins University.
