  • Honeywell Instant Alert System

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Keeping parents informed and involved helps to assure student safety and improve student success.  It has become more difficult for schools to reach families quickly and effectively.  This is why our school is using the Honeywell Instant Alert® for Schools.

Instant Alert for Schools is an essential tool for notification and communication. Within minutes of an emergency, school officials can use Instant Alert to deliver a single, clear message to the students’ parents or guardians by telephone, cell phone, e-mail, pager or PDA in any combination. Instant Alert can also be used to notify you of a school closing due to inclement weather.  It’s an equally effective way to keep you informed of everyday activities, such as event times and locations as well as schedule changes.

Instant Alert is Internet based, allowing each family to maintain a secure, password protected online profile. Included in this letter is an instruction sheet for accessing the system and creating your profile.  You can log into your profile at any time to update your contact information.  Maintaining the accuracy of your profile will increase the ability of the school to keep you informed.

Your online profile will enable you to:

    • Input your personal contact information
    • Select which type of school information you would like to receive on each of your contact devices
    • Set the days and time of days you would like your phone devices to receive alerts.

(You may leave it as is which is 24 hrs.)

    • View the alerts that have been sent to you in the past

The system is ready for you to use at immediately.  If your contact information has changed or you are new to the district, please log in and set-up or change your profile.  We encourage all of you to take advantage of this opportunity, as we will be utilizing this system for most of our school-to-home communication.

If you need assistance with your profile, please go to and click on the Help Request link on the lower right hand side of the page, or contact the school at 201-672-3000.  Be sure to set your e-mail spam filter to receive e-mail from  If you do not have access to a computer, please notify the school office to make an appointment so someone can assist you with setting up your account.

  • "ESSA" Every Student Succeeds Act

    Dear Parent/Guardian:

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed by the U.S. Congress late last year and signed into law on December 10, 2015. The ESSA replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and is the latest reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

Although NCLB was designed to make changes in teaching and learning in order to increase students’ academic achievement, the Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) provision under NCLB was eliminated from the ESSA. Despite this fact, all educators in New Jersey still are required to hold the appropriate state certificate/license for their given position.

Under the ESSA, all schools receiving Title I funds must inform parents of their right to ask schools about the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers and paraprofessionals. Our school receives Title I funding and we are happy to share this information with you upon your request.

New Jersey has some of the most qualified teachers in the country, and we are extremely proud of the quality of the teaching staff in the Carlstadt School District. All our regular teachers have college degrees and many have advanced degrees. In addition, every teacher continues learning through professional development activities and our teachers are evaluated each year to make sure their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level.

I encourage you to support your child’s education and communicate with your child’s teacher(s) on a regular basis. For more information on ESSA, and the role of parents, please visit the United States Department of Education’s (USDE) website at

By partnering, families and educators can provide your child with the best education possible.

    School Safety Parent Survey

The CPS School Safety Team has met several times this year to discuss the safety and climate in Carlstadt. Parents, please participate in a short anonymous survey.  The purpose of the survey is to gain an understanding of how parents feel about the school environment as a means to improve student relationships, learning conditions, and the school’s overall safety. The information collected will assist our School Safety Team with making decisions regarding the climate at the Carlstadt Public School. Superintendent's Message

Dear Community Members, Parents, and Students,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Carlstadt Public School website. The Carlstadt Public School District continues to be extremely proud of the accomplishments of our students, staff and school. We continue to have high expectations and believe that all students have the ability to learn regardless of their cognitive ability and educational background. Students, parents and staff members need to realize that learning is a lifelong process and that there are often roadblocks in addition to mistakes made that assist with our continued development. The school district has also continued to ensure that all state and federal mandates are in compliance. Teacher and administrator evaluation models are in place and being utilized throughout the various grades and curricular areas. In addition, the district continues to implement the New Jersey Student Learning Standards as we prepare for the administration of the PARCC assessment. As the Superintendent of Schools, I have been afforded the opportunity to work with staff, community leaders, community members,  and Carlstadt organizations to develop relationships that will foster and enhance the school climate. Through these relationships, our young people will reap the benefits of the school and community working closely together as shared goals and services become a reality. Our staff continues to be dedicated to serving all students in the district and strives to meet the needs of all academically, socially and emotionally. We look to build supportive, positive relationships between the school and home with the goal of providing a program that develops well-rounded students with a focus upon excellence in academics. Please visit our website often as we are continually looking to improve the site as well as the educational program that we provide our students in this wonderful community.

Sincerely, Stephen M. Kollinok Superintendent
